Why patient-centric copywriting works (and how to do it)
When it comes to writing for healthcare websites, there’s a golden rule I always follow: write for the patient, not the practitioner. Patient-centric copywriting is a simple, proven way to build trust, boost engagement, and drive more enquiries.
When we publish website copy on chiropractic sites, we’ve seen how powerful this shift in perspective can be. I’m not suggesting you dumb things down or leave out important clinical information – it’s about making sure the right information speaks directly to the reader’s needs, fears, and goals.
What is patient-centric copywriting?
Patient-centric copywriting puts the patient at the heart of your message. It’s as simple as using clear, empathetic language that answers the patient’s questions:
- Will this help me feel better?
- Do they understand what I’m going through?
- Can I trust them?
Rather than overwhelming people with qualifications or technical terms, we highlight what truly matters to them. Positive outcomes, genuine reassurance, and a sense of connection.
Why it matters in healthcare
Healthcare decisions are often emotionally charged. If you’re in pain, feeling overwhelmed, or looking for support, you’re probably searching for someone who understands and will focus on your needs.
Most patients aren’t focused on where you studies chiropractic or the latest course you completed. What really matters to them is knowing they’ll be cared for and that you’re committed to helping them feel better.
That’s why it’s so important that your chiropractic website is written with your patients in mind. Patient-focused copy helps visitors feel confident they’re in the right place and encourages them to get in touch.
Case study: Marrickville Chiropractic Care
Instead of opening a chiropractic condition treatment page with a list of treatments or credentials, we start with the patient’s problem.
For example, Marrickville Chiropractic Care used to have this on their ‘pregnancy back pain’ page on their website:
Welcome to our clinic.
Chiropractic care is a natural approach to treating pregnancy-related discomfort. Led by Dr. Kirsten Strudwick (Chiropractor), our team provides safe and effective spinal adjustments to support posture, mobility, and wellbeing during pregnancy.
Visit us at Suite 1/394 Marrickville Rd, Marrickville NSW 2204.
It’s fine, but it doesn’t put the patient at the heart of the solution.
Here’s what we wrote to replace it:
Pregnancy back pain making sleep or movement harder? You’re not alone!
As your baby grows, your posture and balance shift – and for many women, that means new or worsening back pain.
At Marrickville Chiropractic Care, we help expectant mums move more freely and feel more comfortable, using gentle, pregnancy-safe techniques that don’t rely on medication.
Our quiet clinic in the heart of Marrickville is a space where you can feel supported and cared for.

And here is what it looks like published on the website.

See what we did there?
It’s a simple shift, but a powerful one. We move from talking about ourselves to speaking to the patient’s experience.
Here’s a structure I often follow for chiropractic content:
- Start with a relatable symptom or scenario
- Introduce the solution in plain language
- Highlight how life may improve with treatment
- Ensure any claims about treatment are either backed by evidence or are compliant (very important as you know).
Case Study: Deep Well Psychology
Psychology services often deal with sensitive topics, so tone and trust are everything. Another great example of patient-centric copywriting in the health space is for the Deep Well Psychology website, where we focused on making prospective clients feel understood and supported throughout the copy.
On the appointments page, we ask if the client is “ready” to speak with a psychologist (many people take a long time to be ready to seek help) and offer them the chance to “take control of your mental health” – giving them the power in the situation.

It’s also important to explain the benefits to the client.
For example, we talk about the benefits to the client of using telehealth: online sessions offer flexibility and ease of access. For a lot of people struggling with mental health issues, this is appealing.
There’s no need here to discuss the technology requirements or systems used, just a reassurance that a session with a clinical psychologist will help them be their best self.

The same benefit-led approach is used throughout the website:
- “Overcome your anxiety with proven therapeutic techniques and face the world with less fear.”
- “Therapy can help increase your confidence and reduce your anxiety around social interactions.”
- “ERP therapy for obsessive-compulsive disorder can help you manage obsessive thoughts and stop compulsive behaviours.”
CTAs for patient-centric copy
A great call to action (CTA) doesn’t just tell patients what to do – it reassures them that they’re making the right choice. In patient-centric copywriting, this means being warm, clear, and focused on outcomes.
Here are a few examples of how a standard CTA can be turned into something your patients will actually click on:

Final tips for patient-centric content
- Use warm, empathetic language – write how you’d want to be spoken to
- Emphasise confidentiality and compassion
- Use “you” more than “we” or “I” – speak directly to the reader
- Focus on outcomes – how will the patient feel after working with you?
- Write like a human – skip the jargon and keep it conversational
- Include clear calls to action – “Take your first step today”
This is the kind of approach we bring to all our chiropractic website and SEO campaigns. By putting your patients at the centre of the message, we help you build trust, improve engagement, and increase enquiries. If your website could be doing more to connect with potential patients, we’d love to help.
